Language That Has to Be Right

Certified and Regulatory Translation

Language support for legal work where accuracy, format and accountability matter

Legal translation is not an add-on service. In regulated and legal contexts, translated documents must withstand scrutiny from courts, authorities, and opposing counsel.

Lingua supports South African law firms and legal departments with certified and sworn translation designed for formal submission, litigation and regulatory use - handled calmly, securely and correctly.

Who this service is for

Lingua works with:

  • Law firms handling cross-border disputes, litigation or contracts

  •    Legal teams requiring sworn translations for South African courts or Home Affairs

  • Immigration specialists managing high-stakes document submissions

  •   In-house legal or government departments operating in multiple languages

This service is designed for teams that need reliable legal language support, not ad-hoc translation.

What we support

Lingua provides legal and regulatory translation for:

  • Court documents and pleadings

  • Contracts, agreements and affidavits

  • Immigration and residency documentation

  • Regulatory and compliance submissions

  • Supporting evidence and annexures

All work is scoped according to legal use, jurisdiction and risk, not treated as generic content.

Certified and sworn translation

(South African context)

Where required, Lingua provides sworn translations completed by High Court-appointed sworn translators, compliant with South African legal requirements. Please note:

  • Sworn translations are for legal validity and are limited in availability

  • They often require handling of original or sworn copies

  • Turnaround times are longer than standard certified translations

Where a sworn translation is not explicitly required by the requesting authority, a certified translation may be sufficient and significantly faster. We advise clients on the most appropriate option based on submission requirements.

How Lingua works with legal teams

Legal translation projects are handled with:

  • Experienced legal linguists matched by subject matter

  • Certified or sworn translation, where required

  • Second-layer legal review for accuracy and consistency

  • Careful formatting aligned with legal conventions

  • Confidential handling, with NDA support and secure workflows

A dedicated point of contact manages each engagement to minimise back-and-forth and reduce administrative burden.

Delivery and turnaround

  • Standard legal translation: timelines agreed upfront

  • Certified translation: prioritised where required

  • Sworn translation: timelines dependent on language, availability and document handling

Urgent matters can be accommodated subject to feasibility and sworn translator availability.

How work is structured

Lingua supports legal teams through:

Project-based work

For defined matters or occasional legal translation needs.

Ongoing legal language support

For firms or departments with recurring requirements. This model improves consistency, reduces admin and ensures priority handling across matters. Optional reporting is available for teams managing ongoing caseloads.

Why legal teams work with Lingua

Legal clients choose Lingua because:

  • Legal language is handled professionally and conservatively

  • Certified and sworn requirements are managed correctly

  • Accountability for accuracy is clearly assigned

  • Internal legal teams are not left managing translation risk
